Our brand new Higher Education Theatre will outline the opportunities universities have when engaging with academies, maintained and trust schools. The Government has given increased priority to improve the performance of state-run schools and partnerships with universities are becoming an important element in achieving this objective.

Universities can now engage with schools as lead sponsors, co-sponsors or partners, and in other less formal ways. Both types of sponsorship give the university a chance to shape teaching, learning, curriculum and organisation. This can support initial teacher training, give schools access to new funding sources and offer access to expertise from within the university.

The Academies Show will provide practical information about these partnerships, exploring the benefits and challenges of engagement drawing on the experiences of universities that have linked up with these types of schools.

Notable topics relevant to universities include:

      • Establishing effective partnerships with schools and MATs
      • Policy priorities to support universities to thrive post-Brexit
      • Fostering teacher recruitment and professional development
      • Careers and skills
      • Higher and degree apprenticeships
